After being abandoned near the Rio Grande River, two siblings, ages two and three months, were recovered by US Border Patrol officials.
On Tuesday, the agents were aboard a boat when they made the devastating revelation.
An infant boy had been left in a carrier near the riverbed, accompanied by his 2-year-old sister.
Agents discovered a letter under the baby’s carrier stating that the 2-year-old girl and 3-month-old child were Honduran siblings.
Around noon, Border Patrol Riverine agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Station were doing boat operations when they spotted an odd tint on the riverside, according to a statement from the Border Patrol. While investigating the item, agents found two tiny kids who had been dumped.
A note under the baby safety carrier disclosed that the 2-year-old girl and 3-month-old boy, both Honduran nationals, were siblings, according to the statement.
It was unknown how long the siblings had been alone before being discovered.
According to the statement, a thorough search of the area was done, and no other persons were located.
The youngsters did not require medical treatment and were sent to Uvalde, Texas, for processing.
I can’t fathom how terrified these kids must have been. I hope they now feel protected, and that people caring for them are doing everything possible to find them a loving home. This should never happen to a youngster.
