Kids can sometimes be goofing around and call an emergency number for fun. But it’s no fun for mom and dad when they have to explain that their kid made a mistake.
In Ridgewood, New Jersey, Kerry Olson was just munching away on some chips when suddenly, she started choking. Her daughter, 5-year-old Chloe was scared, so she picked up the phone and dialed 911… thinking her dad would answer.
“Daddy, mommy’s choking,” she told the dispatcher who answered. The dispatcher, understanding the little girl was frightened and confused, told Chloe to go to the front door and open it and said “I’ll be right there.” So Chloe walked over to the front door, opened it, and said to the dispatcher, “Love you, bye.”
EMTs and police quickly arrived and helped Kerry, who had stopped choking and was trying to recover from it when they arrived.
Police chief John Ward said Chole, even at such a young age, knew enough to call 911 when something bad was happening. Her dad, Douglas, said his daughter did a great job, and he was very happy with the way she handled it.
