Missing Florida Mother Shakeira Rucker Found Dead in Storage Unit Owned by Estranged Husband

A Florida mother, Shakeira Rucker, who had been reported missing by her family, was tragically discovered deceased in a storage unit in Apopka, Florida, which belonged to her estranged husband. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office declared the situation a homicide case, expressing condolences to Rucker’s family and assuring their commitment to pursuing justice.

During a subsequent news conference, Sheriff John Mina revealed that the storage unit was registered under the name of Rucker’s estranged husband, Cory Hill, currently held in Orange County Jail. Hill had previously faced charges of four counts of attempted homicide for allegedly shooting at his girlfriend and family on November 12. Sheriff Mina stated unequivocally that they are not seeking additional suspects and confirmed Hill’s eventual murder charge in connection with Rucker’s death.

Despite attempts to reach out to the public defender’s office representing Hill, there has been no immediate response from them, according to PEOPLE.

Reports from local NBC affiliate WESH indicated that Shakeira Rucker was a mother of four. The Winter Springs Police Department, in a Facebook post on November 13, highlighted her disappearance, stating that she was last seen leaving her home on November 11, believed to be with Hill, heading to an unknown destination.

Chief Matthew Tracht, speaking at the weekend press conference, mentioned that the investigation spanned four counties—Seminole, Polk, Orange, and Lake. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Mount Dora Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the FBI, collaborated to assist in the search.

Expressing the unexpected nature of the outcome, Chief Tracht acknowledged the closure for Shakeira Rucker’s family. The exhaustive efforts of law enforcement, working 16 to 18 hour days, led to the discovery of Rucker in the storage unit, with apparent gunshot wounds. The autopsy is still underway, as mentioned by Sheriff Mina.
