911 dispatcher takes call from daughter as their house goes up in flames

This weekend, an emergency dispatcher kept her calm when she got a call from her own daughter as their house burned down.

Layla Wray, 39, was operating at the Madison County, Texas emergency dispatchers office when the call came in at 12:20 a.m. on Saturday.

Cassidy seemed scared in the phone audio as she informs her mother that the house is on fire.

Despite hearing a mom’s greatest fear, Wray, who has been a dispatcher for a year and a half, remained cool as she informed firemen and attempted to soothe her child.

‘What is your emergency, 911?’ Wray said as she responded to the call.

‘Mommy, mother!’ Cassidy explains.

‘What?’

‘This is Cassidy, and the house is on fire!’

‘Is your house on fire?’ Cassidy?’

‘Yes.’

‘OK, OK, OK, , tell me what’s going on.’

‘Mommy…(inaudible)’

‘OK, okay, calm down, calm down.’

‘(Crying)’

‘I’ve already got someone on the way, OK?’

In reality, the only time she went into mother mode was when she overheard her children arguing on the other end of the phone.

‘You don’t need to fight about this.’ ‘There’s other (stuff) going on,’ Wray says on the tape.

Wray’s spouse, kid, and dogs were all in the house when it caught fire, but all were unharmed.

Sadly, by the time firemen arrived on the site, the house had been destroyed and is now deemed a total loss.

The reason for the fire has not yet been identified, however it is thought to have originated on the back porch.

In the aftermath of the fire, Madison County Sheriff Travis Neeley applauded Wray.

She performed an excellent job and  performed exactly what she was taught, Neeley stated.

He continued that how many individuals can accomplish this work while also taking a call from their own child?  She did an excellent job, he continued.

Alas, the Wrays did not have fire insurance, but the community has rallied behind them, contributing over $10,000 in a Go Fund Me campaign to assist the family find a new home.

For the interim, the family is sleeping at a hotel, and Neeley adds that a local person is paying for the bill through January 15.
