The first obligation that parents have is to choose a name for their new baby. A name provides a kid an identity that they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Carri Kessler and her husband Michael from Maryland, United States, named their child Ottilie after a friend.
She expressed that she has a friend in the UK. named Ottilie and felt it’s a wonderful name, and wanted to use it ever since she heard it.
However, once their daughter was born, the parents began to have reservations about the unusual name. Carri explained that nobody could recall the name and could not pronounce it too. She thought if pronounced it with a British accent, it sounds pretty fantastic.
The nurses at the hospital couldn’t say it, and Carri’s grandma still had difficulty saying it six weeks later.
Carri elaborated: “‘I don’t know how to speak her name,’ she said. I have Post-its all over the place to remind myself.'”
And things just got worse from there.
Carri recalled every time her name was mentioned, she shuddered. In her words, “I became a little nervous when she was introduced to me. And I thought, we’re going to have to keep introducing her! This is going to be an issue for the rest of my life.”
Carri approached her spouse about altering their daughter’s name after three months, and he consented. The couple chose to name their child Margot.
They conveyed a mass email to illuminate their loved ones regarding the name change, and said that the response was good.
