The spouse of one of the teachers killed in the school shooting on Tuesday died of a heart attack.
Irma Garcia, 46, was one of two teachers killed by the shooter in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday.
Joe, her bereaved husband, died of a heart attack on Thursday.
According to the family’s GoFundMe page, he passed away “of a shattered heart.”
They had four children and had been married for 24 years. The kid’s ages are unknown.
Survivors described how Irma and her colleague Eva Mireles, 44, died sheltering them from the gunman’s gunshots.
Garcia’s nephew John Martinez posted on Twitter, she went away with kids in her arms attempting to protect them. Those weren’t simply her students; they were also her children.
In a poignant homage on Wednesday, Mireles’ daughter told how her mom ‘leaped in front of pupils.’
She does not know how to live without her, however she will look after dad. She will take care of their pets, and she will always remember her, Eva Mireles, 4th grade teacher at Robb Elementary who courageously leaped in front of her pupils to save their lives,’ Adalynn Ruiz posted on Facebook.
Garcia, a married mother of four, has been chosen ‘teacher of the year’ at Robb Elementary for the preceding 23 years.
She was one of 19 San Antonio-area educators chosen finalists for Trinity University’s medal for teaching excellence in 2019.
Garcia was a third-grade teacher at the time, concentrating in history studies and ELAR, or English Language Arts and Reading.
‘I am so happy to start this new school year!’ she posted on the school district’s website before the school year started.
