A pair planning their wedding and the rest of their life together got news that altered their expectations of both.
Clay Slenk and Mariah Nelesen announced their engagement on December 26, 2020. Since they are still young, the pair chose not to rush into marriage. They intended to marry on June 10, 2022.
On January 11, Mariah, 23, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Clay, 24, was diagnosed with leukaemia eight days later.
However, Clay Slenk and Mariah Nelesen married on April 9. They discussed the decision to shift their wedding date ahead before the ceremony.
Clay explained they had a long engagement (and) hoped to marry on June 10 of this year.
Mariah was the one who discovered she had cancer. She explained on January 11th of this year, she received a phone call informing her that she had ovarian cancer. That’s not a call anybody hopes to get.
Clay was waiting for the results of bloodwork eight days later after experiencing what he assumed were lingering symptoms of pneumonia.
He disclosed, he got a phone call about 8 a.m. from his doctor, who said, ‘I want you to get to Spectrum right now. I believe you have leukaemia,’ says the doctor.”
Clay required quick and severe care, which resulted in his spending more than 40 days in the hospital. While he was doing that, Mariah took the step of freezing her eggs.
Clark remarked they’re really getting into it. And it’s not just one of them, but both of them.
The two have chosen not to be angry or sad, but concentrate on battling for their future.
Clay inquired why be upset? If he is furious, upset, depressed, and pessimistic, it’ll just make this day that much worse.
One of the factors they claim changed the date ahead was Clay’s upcoming rigorous treatment. He explained, they changed their wedding date ahead so that they could get married at that period. So she’d be here to take care of him, and they’d be able to get through that difficult portion together.
After learning of their diseases, the couple’s perspective on the wedding preparation process shifted.
Mariah explained she was caught up in planning and eager for all the tiny aspects, like the location and the cuisine. Rearranging the wedding, she has simply tossed it all out the window. It’s going to be a fantastic day nonetheless, and they’ll be grilling burgers and brats.
Clay added that it won’t be easy going ahead but they know it’ll be more significant to go through it together. There will be some sickness before the health, but that’s fine.
