An office worker who became a billionaire when his boss mistakenly overpaid him 330 times his pay has vanished after pledging to return the money.
On May 30, an anonymous HR staffer at Chilean frozen goods manufacturer Cial got 165 million pesos (£150,000) unintentionally.
He had estimated his monthly salary to be roughly 500,000 pesos (£450).
According to Cial’s lawyers, after notifying his line manager what occurred, he was encouraged to travel to the bank the next morning to refund the cash in person.
However, the firm maintains he never showed up. It is now suing the former employee to recoup the funds.
The HR employee said he overslept and texted his employer at 11 a.m. to say he’d do the errand later.
Cial didn’t hear anything further until June 2nd, when the worker resigned through a lawyer.
Cial’s legal action alleges that he was “advised and explained that this money did not correspond to the payment of any service.”
The company contends that the ex-absence employee’s is a kind of misappropriation.
Cial, which was founded more than 50 years ago, has household name brands such as La Preferida, San Jorge, and Winter.
It specialises in cold cuts and bills itself as “industry leaders in the wholesale market.”
