Serena Williams’ profession is far from over… the tennis star advanced in the US Open on Wednesday night with a tremendous win and Tiger Woods was there to encourage her.
Williams defeated No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit in New York, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2, dominating the third set.
Although just playing a few times previous to the big tournament this year, the 40-year-old appeared to be in vintage condition.
The crowd was packed with celebrities for the evening, which many thought would be Serena’s final match of her profession, with Woods, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Spike Lee, Zendaya, Jared Leto, and others ecstatic with each point she won.

Even LeBron James cheered her on from his sofa, dubbing her the “G.O.A.T.” when she won.
Serena stayed on the court for several minutes after winning, taking it all in.

There’s no urgency here, she stated after the contest. This group is fantastic. It’s just great. So there’s still some life in her.
Williams, who defeated Danka Kovinic earlier this week to progress to Wednesday’s match, announced in early August that she will retire after the U.S. Open, creating a big desire for celebrities and regular people to witness her final moments on the court.
Bill Clinton, Hugh Jackman, and Mike Tyson all attended Monday’s match to celebrate tennis’ greatest of all time.
Serena will play Ajla Tomljanovi in her next singles match on Friday. Prepare your popcorn.
