82-year-old veteran fights back and kills home intruder who attacked 79-year-old wife

An elderly man was not about to allow a home invader to enter his Aiken County, South Carolina house, perhaps hurt him and his wife, take anything they needed, and then depart.

No. Herbert Parrish was going to take action.

As the intruder assaulted the 82-year-old Vietnam veteran’s wife, Parrish grabbed a shotgun and whacked the culprit over the head several times.

The accused, subsequently identified as 61-year-old Harold Runnels, died as a result of his injuries.

The break-in happened at 2:15 p.m. on Monday.

Runnels entered the couple’s back door and inquired about his chihuahua with Lois Parrish, 79. She said no, she hadn’t.

As per sources, Runnels took out a knife and started attacking Lois as she was locking the door.

He felt like they were going to die. He’s going to murder them and grab everything he can, Herbert predicted. He wasn’t going to walk out that door and abandon them, that’s how he felt.

Herbert promptly took the shotgun he had hanging on the wall next to the entrance and started bashing Runnels until he was unconscious.

The elderly couple was injured during the house attack, but both are expected to heal fully.
