In a perfect world, everybody would have the natural urge to assist others in their time of need.
However, we do not live in a perfect environment, and many individuals freeze in emergency circumstances or react too slowly to ensure a favorable end.
Valerio Catoia, a young Italian guy with Down syndrome, has no problem running to the rescue of strangers.
He was recently praised for putting his life in danger to save a drowning girl at sea. He is justifiably being recognized as a hero.
Valerio has always enjoyed swimming since he was a child. He even competed in the Special Olympics after pushing himself to the limit in the water and thereby mastering his discipline.
He happened to be there one day on a beach in Sabaudia, which is located in the Italian province of Lazio. He was admiring the nice weather and the cold ocean with his dad. He had no idea that circumstances would unfold that would necessitate his skills.
The next thing Valerio and his dad knew, they were hearing calls for aid from two sisters, one 14, the other only ten. A powerful tide was carrying them out to sea.
Valerio didn’t waste any time. Nevertheless, he dove into the sea with his dad and started swimming to the rescue. He quickly arrived at the younger sister and executed a rescue maneuver he’d learnt on training.
He pulled the girl to the shore with her head above water. However, his dad did the same with his older sister.
When they arrived at the beach, the lifeguards took command of the situation. But make no mistake: it was Valerio and his father that rescued the sisters from a perilous circumstance.
Valerio was hailed as a hero in the news almost immediately.
Valerio is a wonderful person. He didn’t waste any time before running to the rescue of two sisters who severely required his assistance.
He merits all of the accolades he’s receiving from across the world. It’s no surprise that he’s been dubbed a hero.
