Oklahoma doctors and nurses were taken aback when a 12-year-old girl was brought to Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa in the midst of giving birth to her first child. Their amazement swiftly changed to shock when the young mother’s adult lover, 24-year-old Juan Miranda-Jara, openly voiced his joy at the arrival of his new child.
The girl, who is only in the fifth or sixth grade, was quickly taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, while medical personnel reported Miranda-Jara to police for rape of a child. According to officers, Miranda-Jara proudly asserted that he is the dad of the infant and was perplexed as to why the cops were even involved.
Juan Miranda-Jara was apprehended as the girl gave birth to a healthy baby without problem. After admitting to authorities that he had impregnated the girl, he was charged with first-degree rape of a minor.
Even more alarming was the fact that Miranda-Jara had the girl’s mother’s permission to maintain her contact with the youngster. Desiree Castaneda allegedly arranged a baby shower for her daughter and the dad-to-be. Indeed, many family members and acquaintances were not only aware of the child’s sexual connection and pregnancy, but also applauded it once it was made public on social media.
Officers were perplexed as to how so many friends and family members were aware of the 12-year-old girl’s sexual relationship with the man, yet none of them notified law enforcement or child protective services. The unsettling reality is that there is a significant cultural split on the subject.
Since witnessed on social media, the Hispanic community was divided, as adolescent and preteen pregnancy has become an epidemic throughout Latin America. Surprisingly, many Spanish-speakers are backing Miranda-Jara, revealing a significant cultural gap.
Desiree Castaneda was arrested and accused with aiding child sex abuse and child maltreatment. Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, the 12-year-old girl’s biological father is presently serving a 12-year jail sentence for an unrelated rape.
Both the girl and her child are doing well and have been placed in the care of the state. It’s unknown whether they’ll be given to family members.
Although the legal age of consent in Oklahoma is 16, this is not the situation in many other nations. In certain nations, kids as young as 12 and 13 are regarded legally capable of consenting to sexual intercourse, demonstrating that the law does not determine morality.
While diversity may be a positive part of our country, it also has some negative aspects. Merely since a behavior is part of a foreign culture does not indicate that it is worthy of our respect or acceptance.
