Kelly Clarkson On Splitting Holidays With Kids After Divorce: ‘All Of A Sudden You’re Alone’

Kelly Clarkson’s new normal of spending some vacations away from her children took some getting used to, yet she discovered a silver lining: me time.

On “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on December 13, the Grammy-winning singer sat down with singer-songwriter Jewel and addressed co-parenting with their ex-husbands around the holidays. Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock divorced earlier this year, and they have two children, River Rose, 8, and Remington Alexander, 6. Jewel divorced Ty Murray in 2014, and they had an 11-year-old son named Kase Townes.

Clarkson and Jewel both admitted that their ex-husbands had the kids for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they had to learn to be okay with it.

Single parenting is a tremendous adjustment, Jewel, noted for hits such as “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “You Were Meant For Me,” stated. It’s difficult to adjust to being alone for a holiday like that, especially because her entire family is in Alaska.

Clarkson, 40, said it was simpler for her to divide the holidays since Blackstock desired Thanksgiving and she didn’t feel passionately about it.

It’s not her favorite holiday, but it’s for his family, so she was okay, she explained. It felt strange since she’d always had a child there and now she is alone.

Clarkson, 40, and Jewel, 48, say they’ve managed to repurpose time spent with their children by engaging it in themselves.

Clarkson concurred, recalling how she “was a disaster” at the time.

But now she thinks this is fantastic, she remarked. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
