The North Las Vegas Police Department said that no charges would be brought against an unidentified lady who stopped a deadly carjacking by using one of the would-be robbers’ firearms against her assailants. When two ladies came for a house party just east of Cheyenne High School, the event happened.
According to police, the women were sitting in their vehicle outside the residence when they observed a car rushing toward them. The driver, 18-year-old Jaylin Morrison, drove in front of the women’s car, preventing them from leaving, and a pair of masked guys with firearms left the vehicle quickly.
According to cops, the masked suspects, one of them was identified as 18-year-old Devonte Madison, pointed their pistols at the women before opening the car doors and ordering them out. The robbers then yanked the victims from the car and hopped inside. Luckily, the suspects were puzzled by the push-button ignition.
While the perplexed thieves were preoccupied with the start function, one of the victims took advantage of her opportunity to turn the tables on the carjackers. The lady seized the rifle off Devonte Madison’s lap and fled. Madison, unable to let her get away, pursued her and attacked her, seeking to pull the pistol away from her.
Devonte Madison was fatally shot in the head with his own gun, per the victims’ accounts. She then fled to a nearby house as the second suspect opened fire on her. According to the woman, she unjammed the revolver while hiding in the yard until she heard police sirens close. She then approached cops with her hands up and was arrested right away.
Devonte Madison was found bleeding heavily from the head when police arrived. He was declared deceased on arrival. Jaylin Morrison was eventually apprehended when telephone data connected him to the crime site. Cops then located three weapons in his residence and ammo matching the weapon seized at the location of the shooting.
Morrison was charged with 2nd-degree kidnapping, robbery conspiracy, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon, and grand theft of a vehicle. At the time of his arrest, authorities were allegedly still seeking for a third suspect thought to have been directly engaged in the carjacking.
Devonte Madison’s family has spoken out in the aftermath of his death. He was characterized as an “aspiring entrepreneur” who lived in West Virginia and was learning how to manage a firm alongside his elder brother. He earned a 3.9 GPA and was a quarterback in high school, according to reports.
Officials have told the public that the woman who fatally shot Devonte Madison acted in self-defense and will not face charges. Rather, the woman was praised for her courage.
Crime has grown out of hand as a result of laws that limit enforcement and constrain the hands of the court system. As such, residents are taking issues into their own hands as both a deterrence to offenders and a response to the unfairness of the court.
