All of Duane Struck’s pals were grieved when he died earlier this year, popularly known as Butch.
The 77-year-old guy had grown up in Montrose, SD, and he had married Bonnie, with whom he had three kids.
For thirty years, the pair owned and ran Struck Oil Company until the early 1980s, when they relocated to the property where Butch and Bonnie lived.
Struck was not only a successful businessman and farmer, but also a devoted dad and grandpa to his many grandkids and great-grandchildren.
At the same time, he was adored by all of the neighborhood. As his best buddy put it, he was always eager to help others, and he frequently went above and beyond to ensure that all were pleased and felt encouraged.
The late farmer was, in fact, an active part of the local community. He was a former Humboldt Mayor, a member of the Humboldt Township Board, the Humboldt Elevator Board, a member of the Humboldt Threshing Bee Committee, and a member of the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department for almost 40 years.
He was a fantastic man. He just enjoyed his regular routine and his morning coffee at the neighborhood cafe. He also liked fishing excursions and socializing with his family and friends. Everybody who knew him was taken aback when he died unexpectedly in June.
The local community wanted to do something to give back to this magnificent man, even if it was after his death, just like he did when he was alive, taking care of everybody and encouraging his friends and fellow Humboldt citizens.
Farmers assembled to harvest the maize he had sown on his land months before. In fact, so many individuals came to help that Struck’s family had to turn some of them away.
Struck left behind a little more than 500 acres of maize. The farmer had sown corn seeds in the spring, and he intended to harvest it this fall. But he’s no longer there.
As a result, several people came to his property to assist with corn harvesting. And that was a lovely sight to see.
The man’s family is overjoyed because they now know how much Butch was adored.
It’s wonderful to see individuals wanting to repay the generosity they’ve received.
