Crystal Gayle, a country singer, will age 72 in January 2023. Gayle is Loretta Lynn’s sister and a great performer in her own way.
The Kentucky native was one of country music’s earliest crossover artists, with classics such as “Don’t It Make My Own Brown Eyes Blue” and “It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye.”
Gayle’s music career started in 1970, owing to her older sister Lynn, who assisted her in obtaining a recording deal. In August 2016, the “If You Ever Change Your Mind” singer said that her sibling provided her professional advice: “She gave me the best advice: ‘Don’t sing anything that I would because we’re only going to be compared.’ She was right.”
Following her fellow country singer’s suggestion, the chart-topping icon polished her music genre and recorded many country-pop hit singles.
Gayle is most known in Hollywood for her characteristic style, her long dark hair, which she has worn for decades. She did acknowledge, though, that she had tried to cut it all off at times, adding that when her children were little, they informed her she would no longer be known as Crystal Gayle if she cut off her mane.
Gayle has two children: Catherine and Christos, whom she shares with her husband of almost fifty years, Bill Gatzimos. Catherine, the couple’s first child, was born in 1983, and Christos, their second, in 1986.
In 2011, she claimed that her son and his wife had given her and Gatzimos a “grandson, Elijah.” Gayle got so captivated with her granddaughter that it was hard to leave the house for work. He’s simply a bright spot one wants to be around all the time. He is in love with life.
In August 2020, the Grammy Award winner became a grandma for the second time. She raved about the new family member on social media, posting the newborn boy’s first images and writing that he was the reason she was having a good time with her new grandson, Bjorn Alexander Gatzimos.
Furthermore, Gayle previously stated that the Christmas season is always more enjoyable with Elijah there since they get to create “cookies” together. It’s a fulfilling pastime for her as she rarely did it with her kids when she was younger.
Nonetheless, the proud mother stated that she and Gatzimos were “hands-on” with their kids. When Gayle was still an only child, the couple’s daughter accompanied her on business trips. The adoring mother stated that she even nursed her once after the performance.
Gayle’s children are now adults with established careers. Catherine studied “photography,” while Christos studied Accounting and Business at Belmont University in Nashville.
Gayle had a close relationship with her older sister, Loretta Lynn, who died in October 2022 at the age of 90 in her Tennessee home.
The siblings were 19 years apart in age, and when Gayle was born in 1951, Lynn and her husband had already moved to Washington state, where she first began to play and sing on a Sears guitar.
The songwriter was successful in establishing her musical career and unsuccessful in promoting the professions of her other siblings. However Lynn never quit trying because she opted to concentrate on Gayle’s singing ambitions, and she ultimately accompanied her on tours as a teen during summer holidays.
The “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer was always there to help her younger sister, particularly on her artistic path. She had such an impact on her profession that she even recommended her stage name.
Gayle turned sixteen and performed at the Grand Ole Opry in lieu of her sister, who was unwell at the time. She subsequently revealed that she was certain Lynn’s then-husband, Mooney, had a role in her performance that evening.
Considering the sisters’ tight friendship, some individuals attempted to construct a negative picture of them, claiming that there was bad blood between them. Gayle, on the other hand, put the record straight that they quarrel occasionally, but that’s normal for sisters. And they never argue about the music industry.
When Gayle’s beloved sister died, she posted a moving tribute on social media, along with a gallery of family photos. While showing her admiration for the celebrity, she stated that fans had lost an icon and her family had lost a sister.
