Every parent wishes their child a happy birthday. So we move heaven and earth in the hopes that everything goes as planned.
But, as we all know, even on the most wonderful of days, problems may arise. One mother in Charlotte, North Carolina, was attempting to make her small son’s birthday special by purchasing a kiddie pool.
Swimming was the ideal exercise since it was really hot outside.
The next stage was for the mother to fill the kiddie pool in their backyard. Because she didn’t have a hose, she had to fill it with pots. She’d go in, fill a pot, then bring it out and throw it in the pool. It would take a lot of pots and a long time. Her children stood around, watching and waiting. They weren’t sure whether they’d be able to swim that day.
The poor mother continued attempting to fill the pool. Luckily, a firetruck passed by at that moment.
What the lady was attempting moved the firemen. They understood it would take her an eternity to fill the pool that way, and they could see the kids were becoming antsy on such a hot day. They chose to assist. They took the hose from the truck and filled the little pool with it.
The kids were overjoyed and excited about the pool. The mother was speechless. She felt relieved and overwhelmed with gratitude. She wouldn’t have to fill any more pots or fret about whether her son’s birthday celebration would be all she had dreamed of.
Officials were ecstatic with their firemen. According to the post:
“Firehouse 18 is a neighborhood firehouse full of men and woman who truly care about the families they swore to protect. Today, after leaving a medical call, Engine 18 stumbled across a family desperately trying to fill up a kiddy pool by filling pots from the sink for a little boys birthday on this sweltering day.”
It went on to say:
“What was just a simple task for us turned into laughter, smiles, and a lifelong memory for the neighborhood kids as well as the men on Engine 18? Proud to serve the WESTSIDE!”
These firemen did not have to take time out of their day to assist this lady in filling up her pool. However, they did it out of goodness of heart.
They identified a problem and devised a solution. They made the decision to assist someone in need. It demonstrates what wonderful people they are.
Many others saw the message and witnessed what these firemen performed for a local family. Many individuals commented on the post as well.
One Facebook member commented: “This is awesome, brought tears to my eyes. Those kids will remember what you did. Thank you from PA. Stay safe.”
Another person wrote: “Men and women like you are the reason I believe there is still good in the world.”
This little act of compassion managed to turn a boy’s birthday around. It is certain that the family will always cherish it.
We should all be motivated to extend a helping hand when we perceive one required. Kindness can always make a difference, whether it’s feeding someone who is hungry or filling a kiddie pool with water.
