Andrew Levy is a nice guy. But aside from that, he’s a real estate agent in Florida. He’s never married or had any kids of his own, but when he learned that the school lunch debt in the town of Jupiter, which includes nine schools, was nearly a thousand dollars he decided to do something about it. He paid it off. He did this because students who owed lunch money to the school were not being given full lunches, just a simple cheese sandwich.
Says Andrew: “Food is something that you shouldn’t have to think about. Children shouldn’t have to learn hungry. These children that were in debt were going to either not eat or they would get just cheese sandwiches, and I thought that’s crazy.”
Andrew has resided in Jupiter since 2014 and he loves the area. And once he paid off that lunch debt, no more students were being given cheese sandwiches. Then his Facebook page began getting comments from many others who wanted to help, and asked how they could. He was overwhelmed by all the attention his gesture had brought.
Says Andrew: “I even have had some clients over the past 48 hours say, ‘You know something, I want to help, I want to give too’. Every quarter, I’m going to do either a GoFundMe page or a fundraising page that can raise money, so lunch debt never accumulates so that children never have to worry about a hot meal and parents never have to worry about paying the bill.”
And Andrew kept his word. His first GoFundMe page raised the target amount of $2,500. His next goal is to make sure every child in the entire state of Florida never has to worry about missing another lunch because they can’t pay for it. That’s quite a goal. But then again, Andrew is quite a guy.
