One afternoon a while back, in Harrison, Michigan, 97-year-old Sophie Thomas was working out in her garden, pulling dandelions and other weeds from the soil. Then, she found herself face-to-face with a group of very aggressive dogs.
Says Sophie: “All of a sudden, it was four big pit bulls rushing in, and they surrounded me. They kept going around and around. One of them kind of lunged for me, and I hit him on the head and he backed off. Then another one kind of came up, and I was scared stiff.”
Sophie’s mind was racing. How was she going to be able to escape this potentially horrible situation? Then Sophie spotted her cat, Tiger, sneaking up on the dogs.
Tiger could sense that her owner was in trouble, so she jumped right between Sophie and the dogs then bolted toward a garage, leading every one of the dogs with her.
Sophie knew that if Tiger had not done that, the dogs were going to possibly put her in serious danger. Sophie quickly ran inside her home, not knowing what became of her heroic cat. But a short time later, Tiger showed up at Sophie’s door.
The neighbor who owns the dogs said they were friendly, but her son left a door open and they escaped. She was fined $300 for allowing them to escape and they were quarantined for 10 days.
