A thank you note can sure go a long way in letting someone know that you really appreciate what they’ve done.
A few years back, an envelope was left on the car windshield of Samantha Ford, who had parked at a Dunkin’ Donuts. Samantha’s boyfriend was serving in Afghanistan at the time. When she walked out of Dunkin’ Donuts with her order, she thought a police officer had left her a ticket. So she buckled her kids back up in her car and prepared for the worst. But, instead, she got a smile and something that warmed her heart… very much.
On the outside of the envelope, someone had written something. It read: “I noticed the sticker on the back of your car. Take your hero out to dinner when he comes home. Thank you both for serving…Him deployed and you for waiting.” It was signed simply, “United States veteran, God Bless.”
The sticker referred to in the note is on Samantha’s rear car window, and says “Half of my heart is in Afghanistan.”
When Samantha read the message, she couldn’t help but cry. And inside the envelope, the very kind, anonymous veteran had left her two $20 bills.
When Samantha posted about the incident on Facebook, it received more than 2 million likes and close to 150,000 shares. The story also made the news. Samantha said she and her boyfriend, Army Specialist Albert DeSimone were very touched by the kindness of the stranger, with Albert saying it’s people like this that make him proud.
Says Albert: “Hopefully, (the veteran who left the message) was sitting at their house watching the news and they saw how much it touched our lives and made us happy and it made me proud to be in the military and doing what I’m doing.”
