June Lockhart celebrated her 97th birthday on June 25th. The actress has had a legendary career, appearing in series such as “Lost in Space” and “Lassie.”
She was born on June 25, 1925, and began her career in show business at a young age. In 1938, she and her parents appeared in “A Christmas Carol.” Following this, she appeared on stage in a play, and her profession has grown massively since then.
One of Lockhart’s most memorable roles was as a mom. On the famous programme “Lassie,” she portrayed Timmy Martin’s mom. She gave the character justice and received critical accolades as a result.
She once called the show “a fairy tale about folks on a farm where the dog solves all the issues in 22 minutes, just in time for the last commercial.”
Her portrayal as Dr. Maureen Robinson in another successful programme, “Lost in Space,” was another of her legendary performances. On the programme, she was the matriarchal role who looked after not just the family’s food requirements but also the construction they need when travelling.
She got close to her television show son, played by renowned actor Bill Mumy, during filming the show. Mumy later revealed that Lockhart was carrying about a photograph of an unlikely artist: David Bowie!
Apart from that, Mumy had some nice things to say about the actress. “June is such a fascinating character. She is without a doubt one of the brightest persons I’ve ever met. She is a true rock and roll goddess. I vow to the Lord. She lives for rock and roll,” Mumy explained.
Aside from the roles that made her famous, June Lockhard will be remembered as a great legend for another reason. She has not one, but two Hollywood Walk of Fame stars! She earned one for her work in film and another for her work in television!
She got them both on the same day, February 8, 1960. Aside from the two stars, NASA awarded her the Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in recognition of her work in increasing public interest in space.
She has been working for over eight decades. She has been on series such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “7th Heaven,” and “General Hospital,” among others.
Her marriage to John Maloney produced two daughters. From 1951 through 1959, the pair was married for eight years. Both of their daughters, Anne Lockhart and Lizabeth Lockhart, are actors.
