It is never easy to learn of a beloved entertainer’s demise. Many lovers of Anita Pointer and her music were shocked to learn of her demise.
Anita Pointer was a founding member of the Pointer Sisters, a famed female group. Anita, Bonnie, and June Pointer comprised the ensemble. June Pointer died first in 2006, and Bonnie Pointer died in 2020. Anita was the final original member of the legendary band, which was recognized for experimenting with sounds during the 1970s and 1980s.
According to her spokesman Roger Neal, Anita died on December 31 at the age of 74, accompanied by her close family and friends. According to the statement, she died of cancer after a “rather protracted and valiant struggle…”
The original Pointer Sisters were Anita, Bonnie, and June, and now Ruth, Issa, and Sadako are carrying on the flame. While they are extremely grieved by the death of Anita, they are relieved in understanding she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her sisters June and Bonnie, and at peace, her surviving family said in a statement.
She was the one who kept all of them close and united for so long, her love of the family will live on in all of them, the statement said. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time. With Anita there, heaven is a more caring, lovely place.
Anita Pointer was the fourth of six children born on January 23, 1948. She was reared in California but spent every year in her parents’ home state of Arkansas. She was a member of the school band when she was in high school.
When her sisters Bonnie and June formed a band, she joined them and they became a trio. The group immediately became well-known for their diverse music selection. “Fire,” “He’s So Shy,” “Slow Hand,” and “I’m So Excited” are among their best singles.
The Pointer Sisters won three Grammy Awards and were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. Anita was also honored with induction into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.
Anita stood down from the Pointer Sisters in 2015 because of persistent health issues. Her daughter died in 2003, when she was 37 years old.
It’s heartbreaking to learn about this death. Our hearts go out to Anita Pointer’s family and friends.
