BEHIND BARS: Eliza Fletcher murder suspect hit with ‘unrelated’ charges

Cleotha Henderson, 38, who is accused with first-degree murder and extremely aggravated kidnapping of Fletcher, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape as well.

The new aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape accusations, according to a Memphis Police Department Public Information Officer, are “unconnected” to the acts Henderson reportedly perpetrated against Fletcher, but he did not have any other information to provide.

Henderson is also accused of illegally carrying or possessing a firearm. According to court documents, a grand jury indicted him on the extra allegations on Thursday.

A Memphis Police Department public information officer also told that on September 21, 2021, its criminal investigation section accepted a sexual assault complaint, and on September 23, 2021, a sexual assault kit was sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The public information officer, though, stated that a DNA match on Henderson was not obtained until after the alleged kidnapping and murder of Fletcher on Sept. 2, which provided police with sufficient cause to make an arrest.

She also stated that there was no probable cause to make “any” arrest until the DNA match was obtained.

Henderson, who was driving a GMC Terrain, reportedly kidnapped Fletcher about 4:20 a.m. on Sept. 2. According to the cops, she was “kidnapped and pushed inside” the dark-colored GMC Terrain.

According to cops, a security camera filmed the identical GMC Terrain in the kidnapping area 24 minutes before Fletcher was abducted.

Henderson was apprehended by law enforcement on Saturday morning, but refused to tell cops where Fletcher was, leading in a major hunt for the missing mom of two.

According to an affidavit, two witnesses, including Abston’s brother, Mario, informed police investigators that they saw Henderson using floor cleaner to clean the interior of the GMC Terrain and washing clothing in the sink.

Fletcher suffered substantial injuries, according to cops, and left proof, such as blood, in the vehicle that the accused cleaned.

Memphis police said on Tuesday that Fletcher’s corpse was discovered at 5:07 p.m. Monday in the “back of a vacant duplex unit,” near where Henderson was reportedly observed emptying out the GMC Terrain.

Authorities did not reveal the location or manner of Fletcher’s death, citing the fact that it is too early in the inquiry, and they also did not provide a reason.

Henderson is being detained without bond in a Memphis prison and is scheduled to appear in court on September 19. He is now charged with two charges of very aggravated kidnapping, one count of aggravated rape, two counts of theft, first-degree murder, unlawful carrying or possession of a firearm, identity theft, tampering with evidence, and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.
