Eddie Murphy has consented to pay ex-wife Mel B $35,000 in monthly child support for their 15-year-old daughter, two years after the Spice Girl requested further financial aid.
As per court document, the two settled on a new child support plan for Angel Iris Murphy Brown after Mel, 47, reported a change in her income.
Since the exes concluded their contentious paternity dispute in February 2009, Murphy, 61, has been paying the British-born singer, actual name Melanie Brown, $25,000 per month – $300,00 per year.
The revised contract, signed on August 17, specifies that the comedian, referred to in the petition as the ‘extraordinarily high earner,’ will have to pay an extra $10,000 each month.
The payments will be provided retrospectively from last October until Angel reaches 18.
He also accepts to cover Brown’s $10,000 lawyer expenses.
According to court filings, ‘the parties agree that Respondent (Murphy) is a “extraordinarily high earner.”
The amount of child support set out below has been calculated based on the minor child’s reasonable requirements.
Beginning October 1, 2021, Respondent shall pay to Petitioner the sum of $35,000 per month as and for child support for the benefit of Angel
Child support should be paid through wire transfer on the first calendar day of each month.
However, the lawsuit states that Brown will be accountable for ‘add-on’ charges such as health insurance, health care, extracurricular activities, and Angel’s school expenses.
It further specifies that the arrangement is a ‘non-guideline child support order,’ which means that no material shift in circumstances is necessary for revision.
Brown initially requested increased child support in October 2020, alleging her income had dropped drastically.
Until lately, Melanie was lucky in her work to maintain a decent lifestyle for herself and Angel, according to the petition.
However, Melanie’s income has significantly decreased, forcing her to contemplate altering child support for the first time.
According to reports at the time, Brown reportedly tried to settle the issue ‘several times’, ‘without judicial interference, but to no effect.
Mel, who has two older kids from prior marriages, gave birth to Angel Iris Murphy Brown on April 3, 2007, Murphy’s 46th birthday.
On June 22, 2007, Murphy’s representatives stated that a DNA test had proven that he was the dad.
Murphy, who now has 10 kids with five other women, first declined to have anything to do with Mel or their kid, saying that she had duped him into becoming pregnant.
However the actor later changed his mind.
Mel acknowledged their tumultuous divorce in her 2018 biography and claimed that Angel was reconciled with her father in May 2017 owing to his mom, Lillian Lynch, and the two now enjoy a close connection.
