Looking back on old family photos is a great thing to do. You can relive the past of your days gone by, you can laugh at that silly haircut… because let’s face it, we always do, and you can cherish the memory of that one-second slice of time that’s forever frozen in history.
Some people like to take that photo taken some 20-odd years ago and reproduce it with a current one in the same scene. And those photos can be hilarious.
In Auburn, Washington, a father and son wanted to spend this past Father’s Day doing something very memorable. They had been looking through old family photos and came across a really nice one of the two of them. That photo, taken in 1998, showed police officer Andrew Gould in his sqaud car with his 6-year-old son, Michael, on his lap.
For Father’s day back then, Michael gave his dad a card with the note: When I get bigger, I’m going to be my dad’s partner and catch bad guys and burglars.”
And in the photo, they were both smiling, obviously having a good time with each other. So Andrew and Michael decided to recreate that exact same photo now. In the police car with Michael on Andrew’s lap.
Well, Michael has grown just a bit since that original photo was taken. He’s, of course, a full-grown man. And at 6-foot-7, that’s quite a bit more than a full-grown man.
The recreated photo that was taken shows a very crowded driver’s seat with Michael sqeezing onto his dad’s lap. And another thing changed. Michael had followed in his dad’s footsteps and is now also a police officer, though they do not work for the same department.
But there’s one thing in the new photo that has not changed at all. Their smiles, as they continue having a good time with each other.
Michael’s department posted the photos, saying: “Recreating the photo 20 years later was a wonderful tribute to father and son. Hope all you father’s out there had as wonderful a day as our own Officer Gould!”
At 6’7”, it was a hard squeeze to fit Officer Gould’s son in his patrol vehicle on Father’s day this year, but they did…
