An autopsy report for the kid who died after falling from the Orlando FreeFall attraction in March indicated that he perished of blunt force injuries and that his death was accidental.
The Orange County Medical Examiner’s autopsy also revealed that 14-year-old Tyre Sampson‘s weight was over 100 pounds above the allowed rider weight for the 430-foot drop tower attraction at Orlando’s ICON Park.
“The corpse is that of a well-developed, obese, 74-inch, 383-pound, black guy, looking older than the recorded age of 14 years,” states the medical examiner’s report, highlighting various internal and exterior abrasions, lacerations, and fractures.
Sampson, who played football in the St. Louis region, was on spring break in Florida with a friend’s family, and his stature has been investigated as a possible cause in his demise.
According to an original study by independent experts employed by the Florida Department of Agriculture, detectors on the ride were manually modified to increase the amount of the hole for restraint on two seats, causing Sampson to be improperly fastened.
Sampson’s parents have filed a lawsuit against the ride’s owner, manufacturer, and landlord, alleging negligence and failure to offer a secure amusement attraction.
According to the case, the defendants neglected to notify Sampson about the hazards of riding with somebody his stature and did not offer a proper safety device.
“He had no right being on that journey. He was supposed to be able to attend his eighth-grade graduation last week” According to Kim Wald, a lawyer with The Haggard Law Firm, the postmortem revealed Sampson’s weight. “This is simply another piece of the jigsaw moving forward in the case for us.”
Sampson’s dad informed journalists that he found out about his child’s death after watching a viral social media footage of the catastrophic amusement park accident.
A lawyer for the ride’s owner, Orlando Slingshot, has stated that the firm is working with state officials investigating into what occurred.
