Sonya Eddy, well renowned for her work on “General Hospital,” has died at the age of 55.
Eddy died on Monday night, according to the soap star’s close friend, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer.
Spencer uploaded a picture of Eddy on Instagram with the caption, “The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of ‘General Hospital’ fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans.”
Eddy gained prominence in the hit soap opera “General Hospital” as no-nonsense nurse Epiphany Johnson. Having secured the part back in 2006, she starred on and off all the way through to 2022, as well as revisiting the character in a spin-off titled “General Hospital: Night Shift”.
Sonya featured in a total of 543 episodes.
Her television credits, however, do not stop there. No, the 55-year-old has a portfolio of modest cameos in well-known series throughout the years, including “Seinfeld”, “The Middle”, and “Home Improvement”.
The soap star was renowned for keeping fans up to speed via her Instagram profile, but she had not posted since August before her death.
When word of her death surfaced yesterday, admirers and peers took to social media to express their condolences.
Her smile could power a reactor. I loved the few times we worked together, but I REALLY loved the times we would talk about life, meditation, acting. She was a gift & she is missed already. Condolences to her loved ones. #RIP #SonyaEddy @GeneralHospital pic.twitter.com/2iVpscKUlD
