Girl Born Without Hands Wins Handwriting Competition.

Think about this for just a moment: What if you were born… without hands? 10-year-old Sara Hinesley was. Yet, incredibly, she recently won an award that certainly defied the odds. That award was for her handwriting skills in cursive, given out through the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest.

Says Sara’s Principal Karen Smith of St. John Regional Catholic School in Frederick, Maryland: “It’s pretty amazing, given the physical disability that she has.”

Sara’s sister, Veronica, wanted to help Sara as much as she could, so she developed an artificial hand for her so they can play some games together. Sara received her award at the end of the last school year.

Says Sara: “The things I CAN’T do, I try to figure out the ways I CAN do it. I just try my hardest and put my mind to it… and this is what happens.
