One Of the greatest happiness in life is bringing a baby into the world. In this story the family finally welcomes a baby girl after 75 years. This amazing moment was also witnessed by their great great grandmother.
Gwen Smith great great grandmother first met baby Maeva at home in Dene Holm Residential care Home in Northfleet, Kent. While gathered by 5 generations of family the Smiths watched the special moment as the 100 year old Gwen Smith held the baby girl for the first time.
Gwen will soon turn 101 who already has 5 grandsons, 8 great grandsons and 6 step great grandsons and was thrilled to meet the newest addition to the family. Even though Gwen’s cataracts meant she was unable to see clearly yet she was still excited and happy to meet the little angel.
In 1921 Gwen was born in Essex on 28th February. As a youngster she moved to Gravesend, while working with her father’s seed merchant shop in Kent she also became a beautiful dancer and at various local events performed too.
At 16 she met her husband Ron who was an apprentice electrician at Blue Circle Cement Works. In 1940 the two married at the height of the Second World War after Ron managed to get a special leave for only 8 hours while stationed at the Isle of Grain where he was sent to serve overseas with the Royal Engineers. For five years they didn’t meet.
After the war they finally reunited and enjoyed several years of traveling, bringing up their two daughters Gloria and Sanfra. Now finally after 75 years a baby girl was born in the family.
Finally a great great granddaughter to the family. Definitely a precious gift to her and the family.
