Many California moms have stepped forward to assist a toddler whose police officer mom was slain in Palm Springs. Officer Lesley Zerebny, 27, was responding to a domestic disturbance call when she and two other police were shot, one of whom died.
Officer Zerebny had been with the Palm Springs Police Department for almost a year and a half and had just returned to duty after maternity leave when she was slain. The shooter, 26-year-old John Felix, was caught after a gunfight with cops.
Felix also killed Zerebny’s colleague, Jose Gilbert Vega, a 35-year police veteran who was about to retire. Felix fired a rifle while Zerebny and Vega were conversing with him via a screen door at his house. That was the first time a Palm Springs cop has been slain in the line of duty since 1962.
A 32-pound package came in Officer Zerebny’s mailbox while his family was still suffering from the unexpected loss. It was founded by a group of moms who heard her tale and felt moved to assist in any way they could. As it turned out, their gesture of kindness had a huge influence on Zerebny’s husband and infant daughter, Cora.
More than 500 ounces of breast milk were given to Zerebny’s family three days following her death. It was initiated by a group of ladies from the Monterey region of Northern California.
A lady only named Ashley spearheaded the campaign after seeing a plea for prayers on social media and inquiring if the family may benefit from donated breast milk. Indeed, that may be useful, she was informed, and within a day, a month’s supply of milk was brought in coolers.
This initiative began on social media when a family member posted for prayers. This family member happened to be in the Monterey region, and when a local lady named Ashley inquired whether donated breast milk might assist, she said yes, and this tremendous endeavor began. Soon after, more than 500 ounces of breast milk from Monterey area parents were provided to that family member to take back to Cora.
Ashley said that she didn’t want any praise and only wanted to do the right thing in a horrible circumstance. And she has definitely accomplished this. It is owing to the goodwill of strangers like Ashley and the other moms who donated their breast milk to baby Cora that Officer Zerebny’s family will finally get through this period of terrible sadness after her death. Please keep them in your prayers and thoughts.
