After accepting her sexuality and deciding what makes her happy at the age of 35, a woman who left her spouse and now lives out of a suitcase says she’s never been happier.
Lauren Burgess, 37, claims she was happy with her life until she began suffering anxiety in April 2018, breaking out in persistent hives as a result of stress, prompting her to seek counseling.
It wasn’t until Burgess, a business coach in California, began visiting a therapist that she discovered her sexuality and discovered she was a lesbian.
She had the dream husband, house, puppy, and work, but she began to notice something wasn’t a miss, she expressed, adding that she originally blamed it on her job’s long hours and stress. She watched individuals on social media freely discussing their sexuality, and something clicked.
She went for a couple of weeks in her van and it all clicked – she knew she was homosexual.
Burgess admitted that she explored with ladies in college but didn’t think much of it.
It was simply a little of fun back then, she claimed, adding that she didn’t think much of it until COVID hit in 2020 and she fell into melancholy.
She couldn’t get out of bed, she said. Her ex-husband Matt and she started marriage counseling and spoke about traveling, but he changed his mind and had the guts to tell her that it wasn’t what he desired.
Burgess said she went abroad anyway, buying a van on Craigslist and starting on a few weeks of adventure, which is when things “began to make meaning.”
She’d been seeing a lot of individuals on social media discussing about their sexuality, and she started to think she could be bisexual, she explained. But it all connected during the vacation, and she knew she was absolutely homosexual.
Burgess returned home and discussed divorce with her husband Matt, 40.
It was incredibly hard to tell Matt, yet he was supportive, she added, acknowledging she felt “selfish” at the moment. However, she is currently living her ideal life by touring the world.
Burgess collected her stuff and her Goldendoodle Ted and traveled throughout the West Coast, ending up in Joshua Tree, California, when the couple divorced in February 2021.
In June 2022, she took her travels a step further and went to Europe, leaving Ted with Matt.
Exploring Europe has been incredible, she said. She has visited several places, including Copenhagen and Amsterdam, and is currently in Lisbon.
Burgess characterized her ex as a “wonderful human,” and she still has fond memories of him.
It’s been really difficult, but she had to follow her ambitions, she explained. She used to think she was living the life of her dreams, but now she truly is.
