‘I’VE GOT A GUN’: No charges for homeowner who fatally shot daughter’s ex-boyfriend

Doorbell footage captures the moments an Ohio man reportedly shot his daughter’s 22-year-old ex-boyfriend to death while attempting to break down the front door more than a year after the split.

A grand jury has chosen not to indict Mitchell Duckro in connection with the fatal shooting of James Rayl, 22, through the door of Duckro’s residence in Sydney, Ohio.

Allyson Duckro, Duckro’s daughter, had ended her connection with Rayl more than 18 months previously, however the young guy left a voicemail on her phone the night before and turned up at her house about 11 a.m.

Ring Doorbell video footage shows Rayl ring the doorbell, stand back, and wait for a few minutes. He then goes away, only to return and ring the bell again. Rayl is then shown opening the glass or screen external door before tugging on the main entrance doorknob.

Duckro and his family order Rayl to go, however Rayl rather starts slamming his body weight on the door. “I’ve got a gun,” Duckro is heard yelling from inside the house. Rayl broke the deadbolt and got the door open a few inches before Duckro started fire.

Rayl was hit three times in the left and right shoulders, as well as the back, and is seen heading to the driveway before falling. Following the sound of gunfire, a female voice is heard screaming inside.

Jeffery Hereford, a neighbor, enters the picture and goes across Duckro’s front yard, saying, don’t shoot him. Later, Hereford claims he has no gun.

Allyson Duckro allegedly told her father during the 911 call, dad, there’s nothing you could have done, he saved her life.

The message, 911 call, and doorbell camera footage were brought to a Shelby County grand jury, which finally opted not to prosecute Mitchell Duckro, citing Ohio’s “Stand Your Ground” and “Castel Doctrine,” which establish that homeowners can legitimately use fatal force when intimidated.
