Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that she “truly didn’t desire to be married” to Will Smith. After Smith’s iconic slap at the 94th Academy Awards, the pair has been in the spotlight. He rushed on stage and smacked Chris Rock after the comedian made an offensive joke about Pinkett Smith’s autoimmune illness, as we previously reported. She was under so much stress as being a young actor, being young, and she was just, like, pregnant and just didn’t know what to do, Pinkett Smith said in a rediscovered interview tape from Red Table Talk from 2018.
Smith and Pinkett Smith wedded in the Gothic-style Cloisters Castle in a Baltimore suburb. Regardless of the fact that the wedding appeared to be lovely from the outside, Pinkett Smith’s mom characterized it as “awful” and a “jumble.” According to the New York Post, Pinkett Smith stated that she never intended to get married. Adrienne Banfield-Norris, also known as “Gammy,” 68, pushed the couple to marry when Pinkett Smith fell pregnant with Jaden, now 23. The star sat at a round table with her mom, Smith, and Willow, their 21-year-old daughter. She truly didn’t want to get married, she explained. They only got married since Gammy was sobbing, Smith told their daughter Willow. It was almost as if Gammy was saying, ‘You have to get married, so let’s speak about the wedding,’ Pinkett Smith continued.

She remembers feeling really passionately and wished them to get married, her mother added. Pinkett Smith’s mom was just 18 years old when she gave birth to her daughter, and she was briefly married to her father, Robsol Pinkett Jr. Banfield Norris. Her mother remembered she wanted her daughter and Will to marry, but does not recall her rejection of the notion. She recalls being turned down for a wedding but not for a marriage. Pinkett Smith joined the discussion, saying, and now Gammy has gone to Will, weeping about how she doesn’t want a wedding, and was being forced to have one. She genuinely wanted it to be the two of them on a mountain since she thought, ‘This is serious business.’
Banfield-Norris discussed at the wedding that Jada was unwell, and she was unpleasant. She refused to cooperate in any way. Pinkett Smith said with a grin, and she was so unhappy that she had to get married. She was so enraged that she sobbed her way down the aisle. She wept the way down the aisle. Smith, on the other hand, feels very differently about their wedding. He stated that there was never a time in his life when she didn’t want to be married and have a family. He has been imagining his family since he was five years old.
Despite Pinkett Smith’s vehement resistance to their wedding, she and Smith finally agreed that it was “the correct choice.” Banfield-Norris also regretted not honoring her daughter’s desires and for insisting on a lavish wedding.
