Jennette McCurdy expressed that she was “exploited” as a young performer on the set of iCarly.
The 30-year-old actress, best known for her role as Sam Puckett in the blockbuster series, is currently promoting her new biography, which chronicles the harassment.
I’m Glad My Mom Died, McCurdy’s book, tells how she was shot in a bikini for a Nickelodeon wardrobe fitting and was persuaded to consume alcohol. At the time, she would have been a minor.
Debra McCurdy, McCurdy’s mom, died of cancer in 2013, she frequently did not act in similar situations. Debra is said to have informed her daughter that “everyone wants what you have,” and that the abuse was merely the cost of fame.
McCurdy also says in her biography that she was informed she would receive her own iCarly spinoff after the program finished in 2012. Rather, she appeared in Sam and Cat alongside Ariana Grande.
McCurdy describes Ariana came whistle-toning in with enthusiasm as she’d spent the previous evening playing charades at Tom Hanks’s house as the moment she “broke.”
When Nickelodeon’s Sam and Cat was canceled after just one season in 2014, McCurdy reported that she was given $300,000 in hush money to keep her from openly exposing her work at Nickelodeon.
McCurdy’s memoir was featured, in which she describes how her domineering mom wanted to live happily through her because she was unable to pursue a profession in acting herself.
McCurdy recounts her mom’s response when she informed her she wanted to discontinue acting after being unable to weep on prompt at an audition. Her mom sobs saying she can’t give up. This was their opportunity. This was their chaaaaaance.
Her mom beats on the steering wheel, inadvertently striking the horn. Mascara is dripping down her cheeks. She’s as amusing as McCurdy was in the Hollywood Homicide audition.
Unfortunately, McCurdy has already spoken about her mom’s severe physical and emotional abuse. McCurdy stated that her mom used to perform breast and vaginal checks on her until she was 17 years old and wouldn’t let her “shower alone.”
McCurdy started writing and directing after retiring from playing in 2017, and her next biography will be released on August 9.
