Courtney Love said that Johnny Depp once saved her life by doing CPR on her after she overdosed on narcotics. The singer, 57, posted a video defending Johnny Depp and expressing compassion for Amber Heard during the pair’s libel trial.
She claimed in an Instagram video posted by her friend Jessica Reed Kraus that he helped save her life and support her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, through her darkest days.
She doesn’t really like to make public judgements, but she simply wants to tell that Johnny performed her CPR outside the Viper Room with Sal in 1995 when she overdosed.
When she was on crack and Frances was having to deal with social services, Johnny sent her a four-page letter on her 13th birthday that she never showed her. He didn’t truly know who he was.
Then, when the social workers were crawling around her school-again, unasked seeking her and all of her pals, he sent limos.
You know, when she was 13, she told her, mama, he saved her life.
In response to the online harassment directed towards Heard since the trial began, Love expressed her sorrow, adding, ‘Finally, I’ve been the most despised woman in America, I’ve been the most hated woman in the world before TikTok, and it’s a very sad situation.’ I can only imagine how Amber must be feeling. Can you imagine being her, f**k man?’
Love later addressed and explained her remarks on her own account, writing, ‘I want to express impartial support for a friend.’ I don’t want to be a tyrant.
‘I’ve had enough of being bullied. I didn’t want to admit to my own bigotry or internalized sexism. (Give a break on that. Take a look at my JOB! I’m working on it) I don’t want to contribute to further online bullying for someone who has never been tormented online before. Ever.
‘In my recovery program, “when we were incorrect, we swiftly confessed it.” I was mistaken.
‘The most significant lesson from what was posted is that I stated that we should all stop having “fun with schadenfreude” (read it up: “Delight in another’s downfall”) and instead exhibit genuine empathy for both sides. Please accept my apologies if I have offended anyone.’
Depp filed the latest lawsuit against Heard, seeking $50 million (£40 million), saying she defamed him in a 2018 op-ed asserting she was a survivor of domestic abuse.
Heard is suing because the actor was not mentioned in the piece. The trial is still ongoing.
