Amanda Moore is a 10-year-old girl in California. One day while at school, she noticed a classmate sitting all by himself on the playground. Well that classmate could not speak any English. He only knew Spanish.
But that didn’t stop Amanda from wanting to communicate with him. She used Google Translate and wrote a note in Spanish to the young boy, named Rafael. And before giving it to him the next day, she asked her mom, Kimber, to proofread it for her.
Her letter read: “Would you like to sit with me today? Look for me and I will show you where I sit. We can color or simply tell scary stories. Thank you for your time, signed Amanda.”
The young girl’s mom was quite touched that her daughter was reaching out to someone she could not verbally communicate with. And Kimber was with her daughter in class the next day when she handed Rafael the note.

Says Kimber: “She walked over and gave it to him, and he stared at Amanda and then he opened it up and was trying to read it. When he finished reading it, his eyes were welling up with tears and then Amanda’s eyes were welling up with tears. And then the whole class stood up and applauded. He stood up and he hugged her.”
Guess that just goes to show that once you get past the words, understanding each other goes without saying.
