When Poppy-Mai was just an infant, her adoring father, Andy Barnard of Thetford, England, promised he would give her a very special wedding when she grew up. And then, the cancer was detected.
It was so hard for Andy and his wife, Sammi, watching their daughter go through such a thing. It was just not right. The chemotherapy treatments did little to help the situation. And the cancer started spreading throughout her tiny body.
When it was apparent she was not going to pull through, Andy made another promise to Poppy-Mai… that he would do his best to raise money to build a retreat in her memory… where parents could take their sick children.
As the end was nearing, Andy and Sammi took their little girl home from the hospital, and fulfilling his promise, Andy himself married little Poppy-Mai the very next day in at their home. Several friends and family members were there to witness it, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
A few days later, Andy informed family and friends that Poppy-Mai, his little angel, had just been given her wings.
Andy continues to raise funds for the retreat in Poppy-Mai’s memory.
