Man Accused of Killing Restaurant Worker Through Alleged Assault with Fire Extinguisher

A 26-year-old man from California, Dino Rojas-Moreno, has been accused of murdering a 27-year-old woman named Tatum Goodwin. Authorities report that Goodwin was allegedly attacked with a fire extinguisher and found dead with a sandbag covering her head at a nearby construction site. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office revealed the charges against Rojas-Moreno, including special circumstances murder, committing the murder during a kidnapping, and personal use of a weapon, namely a fire extinguisher.

Goodwin’s lifeless body was discovered by a construction worker under a chain link fence in a secluded area near Ocean Avenue in Laguna Beach on November 12. The incident occurred behind the restaurant where Goodwin was employed. According to the Orange County D.A.’s Office, Rojas-Moreno approached Goodwin around 1 a.m. on November 11 near her car in a parking lot. He allegedly assaulted her and dragged her to a secluded area behind a construction site, where he is accused of beating her to death with a fire extinguisher.

The motive behind the incident is still under investigation, and it remains unclear if there was any prior relationship between Goodwin and Rojas-Moreno. The suspect failed to show up for work on the day of the murder, claiming he had been assaulted by several men in Santa Ana.

Rojas-Moreno was apprehended by Laguna Beach Detectives with assistance from the Newport Beach and Anaheim Police Departments. His bail has been set at $1,000,000. Authorities emphasized that the incident is considered isolated, with no ongoing threat to the community.

Tatum Goodwin’s family expressed their lack of familiarity with Rojas-Moreno, and friends remembered her as a kind and loving person. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated by the owner of Carmelita’s Restaurants, where Goodwin worked, to raise funds for her memorial services. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office expressed commitment to ensuring justice for Goodwin and conveyed condolences for the tragic loss.
