Man Fatally Shoots Young Father Protecting His Baby, Gives Police Dumb Reason

Dustin Wakefield was killed in cold blood without warning by an unknown culprit in a senseless act of violence. The incident happened in Miami when the victim and his young family were eating at La Cerveceria de Barrio in front of several witnesses.

Tamarius Blair Davis Jr., 22, of Norcross, Georgia, approached the outside eating area shortly before 6:30 p.m. with the intention of killing somebody. Dustin Wakefield, a Colorado native, was eating with his young wife and 1-year-old kid while on holiday at the time.

According to witnesses, Davis marched up to the family’s table, lifted his rifle, and pointed it at the 1-year-old infant boy. Wakefield quickly “stood up between the gunman and the infant,” diverting the killer’s focus away from his child and onto himself. His efforts to preserve his son’s life were successful, but at the sacrifice of his own.

Another witness recorded the aftermath of the gunshot, which looked to show Davis gloating and “dancing” over Wakefield as he lay dying. Wakefield was given CPR by cops, however he died shortly thereafter at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Davis was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for firing at another man prior to the deadly incident. Davis admitted to wanting to kill somebody since he was “high on mushrooms” and felt invincible.

Davis confessed to authorities in an alleyway shortly after the incident. Another witness recorded the man laughing as he lay spread out on his back and screamed, “I give, I give, I give,” while cops arrested him.

Tommy Davis, the accused’s dad, was astonished by the news and stated that his son had never been in problems or displayed mental health difficulties.

Wakefield’s family is deeply grieved. They characterized the young guy as a devoted worship leader and the “greatest parent ever.” A GoFundMe campaign has been set up in his name to help his young wife and children with their financial needs.

The horrific incident is more than just a random act of brutality. It was an utterly avoidable disaster. If Davis is correct, he has left a young mother widowed and a baby child without knowing his dad all because he wanted to get high.

Irrespective of his argument, his apparently changed mental condition is no excuse for murder. He opted to use mind-altering substances, and hence bears total accountability for his future acts.
