Some relationships will make you believe once more in the goodness of people and love. In keeping with their wedding vows, the husband remained by his wife’s side throughout her illness just as he had done before.
In 1958, Andy Fierlit was in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, for a church dance. The moment the teenager’s eyes met Donna, they were immediately smitten. He asked Donna for a piece of gum, and that started the rest of their life together.
The pair married in 1966, ending their relationship as high school sweethearts and becoming husband and wife. They enjoyed many happy years together and eventually had four children, making their family size six. Additionally, they now have 12 grandkids.
Donna had a brain aneurysm at the age of just 45. She chose to take a nap after getting a migraine at a holiday party, but the next day, a severe aneurysm changed the path of her life. She suffered from a partial paralysis due to the aneurysm, and the doctors urged Andy to place her in a nursing home since the quantity of attention she would need would be too much for him and his family to handle.
However, all Andy could think of while he listened to the doctor’s advice were his wedding vows. He wouldn’t place his cherished wife in a nursing facility.
Now that Donna is 76 years old, she has seen more of the globe in the previous three decades since being paralyzed than most individuals do in their whole careers, despite being confined to a wheelchair.
All of this was made possible by her hubby Andy, who still adores his wife.
Yes, it’s difficult, but Andy adds, he has loved Donna since the day he met her and can’t fathom doing anything otherwise. All seven continents have now been visited by the pair, who had always wanted to explore the world together.
Donna isn’t mobile and struggles with short-term memory, but she can still recall her father’s 1955 license plate and is a lot of fun to travel with, according to Andy. They are deeply in love with one another, and they have always avowed the proverbial maxim that “when life hands you lemons, create lemonade.”
According to messages on their daughter Allison Fierlit Peters’ Facebook page, Andy Fierlit died in 2019 and Donna Fierlit did the same in 2020.
They served as a true inspiration and served as a reminder that marriage vows are meant to be kept.
