The incident has not resulted in any charges being filed, and the man’s lawyer, Matt Morgan, believes Tyson ought to have reached an airline steward.
Morgan stated that their interaction was cordial at first. At one point, Mr. Tyson became disturbed by an overly enthusiastic fan and began striking him. He added that this circumstance could have easily been avoided by simply contacting an airline steward. To state the obvious, Mr. Tyson, as one of the greatest fighters ever, should have known better than to use his hands on an overly enthusiastic fan.
The man is accused of throwing a bottle of water at Tyson prior to the fight, but he denies doing so.While the man has not filed charges, Chicago-based attorney Andrew Stoltmann said that Tyson could have faced felony charges for the encounter. Stoltman remarked that generally trained fighters, mixed martial artists, are usually held to a higher standard by both police and judges, in large part since it comes down to intent. In his words, “a trained fighter recognizes that they have the ability to inflict greater damage than a layperson, and self-defense is a common defense in these types of claims. Right? Tyson was defending himself against this man. When you’re the world’s former heavyweight boxing champion, your defense is almost completely eviscerated.”
