A guy claims he was forced to wait almost four hours for a takeout order only to be informed days later that the order was never placed in the first place.
Iain Lucas had planned to spend his Saturday night with his family eating takeout.
The 35-year-old told Lancs Live that he ordered from his local, May Wah, a takeout in Blackpool that he had frequented.
Iain claims he ordered a Munchy Box from the company via the Foodhub app at 8:24 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.
He claims to have gotten a message moments afterwards stating that one Munchy Box sharing meal had accepted his order.
One Munchy Box sharing meal was ordered for Iain, his wife, and his younger brother, which included salt and pepper chicken, chicken wings, chips, chicken balls, egg fried rice, noodles, vegetarian spring rolls, and curry sauce.
Iain says there was still no evidence of the meal or any sign that it was on its way at approximately 10.30pm, over two hours after making the order.
While he kept his calm and remained sure that the order would arrive, he contacted the takeout to find out more.
His wife called for an update. He assumed they were just busy or behind schedule, Iain said to Lancs Live.
They asked for their postcode and address and indicated it was around a half-hour drive away. After 45 minutes, there was still nothing, so they called again for an update.
They gave them the location again, and they stated it would take around 10 minutes and included some complimentary soup.
The three reported that they had not heard a knock on the door after another 45 minutes. Iain claims that at midnight, he drove to the takeout rather, only to find it closed.
He was seething and enraged. It was all a huge annoyance, Iain added. He said he ended up getting meals from somewhere else much later, which meant he paid twice in one night for their dinner.
He expressed that he is a patient guy, but his wife was having fits. He kept telling himself to be patient, it’ll come, it’ll come, and now he feels a little foolish saying it. They were really nice the entire time since being furious won’t get you far when you’re speaking to them.
Iain claims that he received a call from the takeout apologizing for the error a few days after placing the order.
However, Iain adds that the takeout workers informed him that no order was issued to them by Foodhub, which is why his meal did not appear throughout the night.
Despite being provided a refund and the chance to claim a complimentary supper, Iain claims he was puzzled because the takeout verified his order on many instances throughout the evening. Foodhub called him shortly after and provided for a refund.
Iain claims he questioned Foodhub personnel if a takeout needed to approve the meal order manually or if the notification is automatic.
He claims he was informed that firms must accept every order submitted.
He stated when he placed the order, he got a notification that says the restaurant has received your order. Does it happen automatically or does that just show up when the establishment needs to manually accept the order?” he asked.
She replied saying no and that the restaurant must personally accept the order before you receive alerts.
It’s understandable if they didn’t grasp it; technology is unpredictable.
But it’s simply that nagging question in the back of his mind: why did they affirm that it’s on its way?
