Kateri Schwandt and her husband, Jay Schwandt, met in high school and began dating as freshmen. They ultimately married in 1993, and their adventure started.
The western Michigan couple had worked hard in college and had three boys by the time they finished with their various postgraduate degrees. They had no clue how many more kids would arrive!
Kateri and Jay were the delighted parents of Tyler, Zach, Drew, Brandon, Tommy, Vinny, Calvan, Gabe, Wesley, Charlie, Luke, Tucker, Francisco, and Finley after over three decades of marriage.
They cherished their 14 sons, but it wasn’t always easy, and the couple only got by by God’s grace. Mom Kateri had spent most of her adult life in a family full of males, and she had almost given up hope of ever having a daughter.
In 2014, Kateri told a news outlet, if they were to have a girl, she think they would fall into shock. Six years later, on their 15th attempt, the couple received their miracle. Tyler, one of their boys, shared that his parents were finally blessed with the young daughter they never expected to have.
Tyler stated he was still hard to process the news a few hours after learning they were expecting a sibling. He was pretty certain there was nothing pink in their house and that his parents had no female names planned.
The couple chose a lovely name that included both of their names. Maggie Jayne was the name given to the bundle of pink bliss. Maggie was inspired by Kateri’s middle name, Margaret, and Jayne was an ingenious play on their father’s name.
The joyful couple was awestruck by their tiny angel. Jay, a pleased father, stated in a poignant blog post- They are pleased and thrilled to welcome Maggie Jayne into their family. This year has been remarkable in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons, however Maggie is the best gift they could possibly imagine.
