Nobody else gets to name your child except you and your spouse, even if you want to attempt something unusual or crazy – that’s one of the perks of becoming a parent. It started when I was pregnant with my first of two daughters. Mil is very religious and I’m not. So there’s a huge divide on that. She wanted me to name my first daughter Amazing Grace. I would rather gargle broken glass and gasoline. I politely declined or changed the subject a few times. So what did she do?
She said “Y’all can name her whatever you want, but I’m gonna call her Mazie. Short for Amazing Grace. Who the F does that?
So we’ve been dealing with that for 5 years. We also have an (almost) 2yr old. Her dad chose her middle name. MIL only calls her by that or a coutry-fied version of it.
I’m sure it wouldn’t be so annoying if I didn’t have to hear her do it every single day, but regardless. She’s a B. What are your opinions? Am I overreacting? Please don’t be afraid to criticize.
