Every action has a consequence, and sometimes a painful lesson is necessary to realize this. This is precisely what prompted Chiquita Hill, Sean’s mom, to take severe action after discovering what he had been up to at school.
Hill learned from her son’s fifth-grade teacher that he had been misbehaving in class, including taking back, being nasty and arrogant, not listening, and failing to complete his coursework as his peers.
The teacher decided to pay a visit to the youngster at home in order to reach him; but, he had no interest in listening to what she had to say.
The teacher’s admonitions, as per his mother, went “in one ear and out the other,” which is when she knew she ought to do something more to help him see the mistake of his ways. She realized she had to do something to shock him, she says.
Hill chose to seek assistance from the cops after the unhappy teacher left. So she phoned the Columbus Police Department and complained about her son’s rudeness and stubbornness.
The police department decided to send officers to Hill’s house after hearing the information. She told him what was about to occur just before they arrived, but he refused to believe her. She claims that Sean did not trust her. It struck him as they arrived at the front door.
When the cops came, they described what they planned to do to the loving mom, and they proceeded with the plan with her approval.
The initial course of action was to handcuff the poor child like a criminal before walking him out and securing him in the backseat of their police car, where he sat for about five minutes.
They chose to make it appear as authentic as can, considering how clever children are these days. So one officer got in his car, flashed his lights, and drove up a few inches to intimidate him.
Hill stood by and watched it all unfold, later admitting that it occurred so quickly that the small kid had little chance to respond to the shock of being cuffed and placed in a car he thought was bringing him to jail. Hill stated in her statement that she was trying to convey to her son that if he wants to be disrespectful and harsh, this is what occurs when bad people do terrible things.
The officers gave the youngster a good earful before deciding he had been sufficiently frightened, at which point they let him out and watched him run as quickly as his legs would carry him back to the safety of his mother’s arms.
Hill had no clue what the child had been taught in the car, but when he returned to her, Sean had changed. Hill stated that Sean hugged her tight and vowed, he’ll never do it again.
After the officers had departed, she sat the child down and explained what had occurred, ensuring him realize that his acts have repercussions and are frequently paid for by others around him.
The outcomes reassured Hill that she had made the correct decision. Because of the complexity of human brains, certain memories will never be lost in one’s lifetimes.
Hill was certain that Sean would remember the lesson she had taught him about courtesy as he got older in a society where harmful practices were influencing an increasing number of children.
According to Columbus Police Department Assistant Chief Lem Miller, the policemen that got involved did so without the specific permission of their superiors, and the state police are “not in the business of attempting to arrest anybody.”
Miller said that, while it was fantastic that they were able to frighten the child straight, it may have made him distrust the cops, which could have impacted his subsequent life.
Luckily, he verified that the officers will face no penalties as they were merely attempting to do the right thing. However, the reality that they may have misused the authority of their uniforms did not alter. He stated, they completely realize that they were attempting to do the right thing.
Then they stressed that they were not “endorsing” it and would discourage such severe measures in the future.
Despite what Miller said, Hill is still confident her action was correct, particularly since she began receiving positive reports from the same fifth-grade teacher who had come all the way to their house to speak sense into her son.
Meanwhile, as soon as the news hit the internet, Facebook users weighed in with their thoughts. An almost equal number of individuals complimented Hill for taking such a risk, while others chastised her. A user commented, “A caring mother will go to nearly any length to ensure that her child follows the straight and narrow road, and if this is what it takes, so be it. I believe it will make him afraid to do terrible things rather than fearful of the cops.”
Another person who believed it was incorrect stated: “On so many levels, this is incorrect! My spouse is a retired police officer who despises it when parents threaten their children with arrest if they don’t behave.”
Some believed it was excessively severe, but Hill couldn’t care less since her actions brought about the transformation she wanted in her boy.

Lessons in life might appear to be overly harsh at times. Still, in retrospect, one must see that it is a necessary action, and this is what compelled Hill to take the step that eventually resulted in young Sean being a nice person.
