Every expectant couple experiences both immense excitement and apprehension as they await the arrival of their baby… So finding out you’re pregnant with twins is undoubtedly stressful, but also exciting.
The shock of having twins was compounded for one couple in particular when they saw their two snow white newborns.
Indeed, Argentinians Jorge Gomez and his wife had no idea the amount of world wide attention their two adorable daughters would acquire after their birth in 2018.
Mr. and Mrs. Gomez was ecstatic when they realized they were pregnant in 2018. They couldn’t wait to complete their family by making their first-born son a big brother.
Like any sensible pregnant couple, they made sure to visit the doctor on a regular basis for check-ups and to verify that everything was going well. During one of these visits, they learned that they were expecting not one, but two babies: a set of twin daughters.
The difficulty of carrying and delivering not one, but two children is fraught with danger, but Mrs. Gomez had a very normal pregnancy.
Throughout it all, the Gomez’s were thrilled and couldn’t wait to see their two new baby daughters. The customary arrangements were made, such as preparing a suitable area for their soon-to-arrive bundles of joy.
But there was one thing they weren’t expecting. The incredibly exceptional twin girls arrived in the world 36 weeks early at a hospital in Tucuman province, Argentina.
Despite this, Catalina and Virginia, the two small combatants, were in good shape. Catalina was the first to weigh in at 5.95 lbs. Virginia, weighing 5.5 pounds, arrived two minutes later.
However, despite being early, their healthy weight was far from the biggest surprise. Catalina and Virginia both emerged with snow white hair — and neither looked like their parents.
The tiny girls, it found out, were born with albinism, a rare genetic disease that causes a lack of color in the skin. In the United States, for example, just one in every 17,000 newborns is born with albinism. Albinism is inherited via families, and for most forms, both parents must have an albinism gene.
Jorge expressed to a local newspaper that when the doctor told them they were having two kids, they were overjoyed, and when they were delivered and the parents discovered they were albinos yet their delight didn’t change at all. According to the parents, it’s a godsend for them.
Catalina and Virginia became the first set of albino twins born in Argentina when they were born.
Everyone was taken aback by their unique genetic disease. However, Jorge and his wife both felt blessed by their new arrivals. Dad Jorge explained that when the doctors informed the parents they were having two twins, the parents were overjoyed, and when they were delivered and they discovered they were albinos, their happiness didn’t diminish at all.
However, the twins bring with them extra safety issues that must be addressed. One example is that, like other people born with albinism, the girls are particularly susceptible to UV rays, thus the Gomez’s must be especially careful with sun protection at all times.
Catalina and Virginia will be four years old this year, and as they grow older, they become more gorgeous by the day.
In December 2021, the girls appeared in outfits created by a close family friend. Hopefully, their story and these photos can shed some light on albinism and demonstrate how lovely albino individuals can be.
Most significantly, the Gomez’s have demonstrated that every kid, regardless of genetic tendency, deserves to be warmly cherished and without judgment.
