When a couple marries, they frequently look forward to forming a family through having children. They are excited about the path of motherhood and are driven to raise kids together.
In rare situations, the couple’s parents do not want them to have children, regardless of the fact that every human being has the freedom to choose whether or not to have children. Today’s tale is likewise about a similar occurrence that created a public controversy.
Alex Fincher and Ryan’s unusual love story was revealed in an episode of “Love Me As I Am: Untold Australia.” The pair met in a theatre workshop for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Alex and Ryan both have Down syndrome, so making friends came naturally to them. They quickly became closest friends, and Ryan eventually conveyed his affections to her, asking if she would be his girlfriend?
Alex just regarded him as a friend at the moment, so she gently declined. Ryan was able to communicate his sentiments despite her reluctance. Every several weeks, he would ask Fincher the same question and obtain the same answer. She remembered he approached her again one night at their friend’s birthday celebration.
That night, Alex stared into the eyes of her best friend and discovered he wasn’t all terrible.
She later told her mother, Maria Fincher, about her new connection with Ryan, and she enthusiastically agreed. Maria had no idea that she would soon be opposing her daughter’s actions.
Ryan got down on his knees, clutched a ring, and proposed to his fiancée to marry him in 2017. They continued to enjoy life with one other despite their families’ overwhelming love and support.
After spending two years as an engaged pair, the couple chose to get married. They began planning their wedding in 2019 after being featured in an SBS documentary about starting a family. When asked if he wanted children, Alex replied that would be great.
Ryan, who was two years younger than his fiancée, decided to have children as well. Maria, on the other hand, was anxious about her kid. She worried about having to care for her grandchild.
Maria and her husband would have to care for the kid as if it were their own, and they weren’t prepared for it. They are welcome to have a dog, she continued. The concerned mother had no idea that her public remark would create a controversy among viewers.
Individuals who saw the Australian documentary blasted Maria, claiming she hinted that individuals with Down syndrome couldn’t have kids. According to Michelle O’Flynn, director of disability advocacy organisation Queensland Advocacy Incorporated that first and foremost, disabled individuals and people with Down syndrome have the same rights to physical integrity, family, and relationships as everyone else, and it is not the parents’ choice.
O’Flynn stated her worries about individuals having doubts about their children’s abilities to become parents. Despite having a mentally challenged daughter, she differed with Maria and thought that the kid’s burden would not fall to the grandparents.
Others with Down syndrome, according to O’Flynn, may live a decent life if people start acknowledging them and giving them an opportunity to achieve what they want.
People on social media also expressed their thoughts on Alex and Ryan’s choice to marry. “All the best to them…enjoy a lovely life together!” commented one Facebook user, while another wished them success stating, “They’ll have cute babies for sure. Best wishes to them both.”
A Facebook user expressed her joy that her autistic son was about to marry his girlfriend. She thought that persons with disabilities had the same right as everyone else to enjoy their lives.
This endearing love tale shows us that everyone has the same sentiments, regardless of whether they were born with a handicap. After all, all humans are created equal.
