New dad dies from cancer just 48 hours after first cuddle with newborn daughter

Cancer is a very ruthless disease, as anybody who has battled it or witnessed a loved one do will testify.

For every individual that triumphs in their struggle, there are many more who do not. They are no less worthy of life, but they are stolen – much too soon in many cases – by the disease that has proven to be an almost unprecedented plague on our species.

Today, we remember Jamie Hunter, the critically sick dad who died from cancer just 48 hours after his baby girl was born.

Jamie’s ultimate request was to hold his baby, Harper-May, and he was able to do so after she was born early last Monday.

On Wednesday, the new dad died as a result of his illness. Sutton United FC, where Jamie was a manager and coach, verified the news.

It is with great regret that they must announce the demise of their dear Jamie, they wrote in their message. A fantastic companion for Beccy and daddy to Harper-May. Please respect the wishes of the family at this time. There will be no additional information released. Please let the family mourn in peace.

I am devastated to have today lost our 1st team manager, club icon and most of all true friend Jamie Hunter. I have so…

Jamie, a PE teacher in Sutton Coldfield, UK, was overjoyed when he and his partner Beccy Flint found out they were pregnant.

However, the 38-year-old began experiencing excruciating discomfort late last year and was diagnosed with kidney cancer in March.

Only one month later, he received a devastating blow when physicians told him that the disease had spread to his liver and was now incurable.

Phil Taylor, a family friend, set up a JustGiving website to aid Jamie’s family and their baby daughter. So far, £65,000 ($78,000) of the projected £100,000 ($121,000) has been raised.

As a PE instructor, he has impacted many lives and served as an amazing role model for young individuals from all walks of life.

At school, the kids adore him. He is always assisting children. He’s always placed everybody else’s needs ahead of his own.

Such catastrophes occur virtually every day, but it doesn’t make them any less painful to bear. Jamie’s tale has shattered my heart, as has the reality that Harper-May will now grow up without her dad.
