Hunter Brown, an Air Force football player, died after suffering a medical issue on his way to class on Monday, the academy confirmed Tuesday. He was 21.
Brown, a sophomore Falcons center from Lake Charles, Louisiana, fainted on his way to class from his dorm room. According to the school, emergency workers performed life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.
Hunter was a talented offensive lineman with the Falcon football team and was well-respected in his squadron, said Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, Superintendent of the United States Air Force Academy, in a statement. The entire United States Air Force Academy grieves his passing, and their thoughts and sympathies go out to his family, squadron, and everyone who was touched by this great young man.

Brig. Gen. Paul D. Moga, Cadet Commander, added that with a heavy heart and deep regret, he informed everyone that they have lost one of their own. He is survived by friends, bereaved comrades, a bereaved cadet wing, and a heartbroken family.
Brown spent the previous two seasons with the Falcons. He majored in business and minored in French. Cadet Squadron 16 was assigned to him.
Hunter has been a blessing and a privilege to their athletes, staff, and the whole Academy. He was a delight to coach and be a part of the squad, Air Force coach Troy Calhoun made the announcement in a statement. He was strong and a hard worker, and no one worked more for others than Hunter. Candyce and Dustin, his mother and father, raised a lovely boy who made everyone of them a better person. They adore their wonderful brother, and their hearts and prayers go out to Hunter’s magnificent spirit and his family.

Brown was a standout at Barbe High School in Louisiana before enlisting in the Air Force.
The death is being investigated by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Air Force, it was routine procedure for every on-base fatality.
