A man charged with raping a sleeping lady in the United Kingdom was informed that he may have caught HIV from his victim.
Richard Thomas, 27, was sentenced to five years and four months in prison for raping a lady in her house as she slept. Thomas stated that he was aware the woman was unwell but had no idea it may be HIV. When told the news, he allegedly fell.
Thomas admitted to drinking significantly the night of the attack and used cocaine and ecstasy at various points during the evening. He claimed he couldn’t remember much about the incident but believed the woman’s account.

She froze and there were no words spoken, prosecutor Harry Pepper said. He drew up his shorts and walked away.
Virginia Hayton, Thomas’s lawyer, stated that Thomas was unaware of the events that took place but informed her that the lady would not lie and always tells the truth. If she claims he did it, then he did it. It was unclear whether Thomas knew his victim prior to the incident.
Judge Mark Brown, who presided over the case, sentenced Thomas to five years and four months in prison and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for the “heinous offense.”
Hayton portrayed Thomas as struggling about the events of the night. Thomas has a history of arrests, but none for sexual assault or rape.
Thomas feels sorry and cannot comprehend why he did it, which bothers him, Hayton added. She also mentioned that Thomas had a lengthy history with drugs and alcohol, having begun using cannabis at the age of nine and drinking by the age of eleven. Thomas also stated that he became hooked to cocaine and ecstasy at the age of 13 and sought therapy for the addictions during his adolescence.
Thomas was expecting to get the results of the HIV test soon after being informed of the possibility. It was unclear whether Thomas had caught the illness.
In the meantime, Hayton gave Thomas a few words of sympathy.
She stated, this HIV test has been hanging over his head. It’s all his fault. He would not be in this situation if he had not committed this crime.
